There are a fair number of Hungarians not only among inventors , but also among doctors whose work is significant in the history of all mankind. They created or discovered something which carried the world forward and it is partly due to them that science is where it is today. I think they deserve to become familiar with their names.

Here is the famous Hungarian doctors who brought the world forward..

The Buda obstetrician and gynecologist marched into the history of medicine as the savior of mothers: he cracked the etiology of the puerperal fever . He realized that an infectious disease is involved , which is the causative agent of decomposed organic matter , getting from the hands of the doctor into the women's vascular system . To prevent this he proposed the practice of handwashing with chlorinated lime solutions.

Many people call him the first clinical epidemiologist . In 1914, he began with the pellagra - related investigations - pelle agra = rough skin . In his assessment, he found that diet-related deficiency cause the disease called pellagra . Thanks to him, we know now that the eczema -like symptoms as well as disease -causing indigestion is due to a lack of vitamin B6 .

Hungarian-born physician , professor. His father, Ignaz Barany has emigrated to Vienna from Várpalota before his son 's birth. Robert Barany received the Nobel Prize in 1914 for his work related to ears and balance perception, the physiology and pathology of the vestibular apparatus.

Born at Lake Balaton, studied medicine in Graz. He discovered a skin test for susceptibility to severe disease of childhood diphtheria, which is called Schick test in medical practice today.

Born in Budapest, medical diploma scored from the Budapest University of Medical Sciences Faculty (Semmelweis University). His name became public knowledge in connection with the Vitamin C , which was produced from paprika and he also found the chemical nature of the vitamin. Among others he played an important role in the discovery of citric acid cycle as well. He received the Nobel Prize for medicine and physiology in 1937 for his work.

Austro- Hungarian-born chemist and physician. Became world famous through his stress theory. He noticed that patients suffering from many different diseases produce similar symptoms . He assumed that the corresponding symptoms are overall body responses to diseases. He called this syndrome stress syndrome , or GAS - General Adaptation Syndrome.
